The Joy Dare – May 2012

15 – 3 Gifts About Me

  1. I’m sweet (I think I can safely say this because any time I am privy to a description of myself it always begins with this adjective!)
  2. I’m kind (not unfailingly … but pretty close!)
  3. I’m giving and encouraging

19 – 3 Gifts from My Childhood

  1. Dad & Mom who love each other through better and worse, etc. 54 years and counting!
  2. Variety – I tend to focus on the hardships that moving so often brought me but in truth … there were gifts therein as well!
  3. Humor – while I am, by nature, a melancholy soul and many of my memories are sad … there is no denying that my childhood was filled with love and laughter!

20 – A Gift Sweet, Sour, Salty

  1. Greek Yogurt – LOVE!
  2. Lemon or Lime Wedges in Ice Water
  3. Most salty treats are NOT low carb so I am avoiding them just now. One of my recent favorites was the Sweet & Salty Concrete at Freckles Frozen Custard!

psalm23 300x300 Still Waters

The Lord is my Shepherd

I shall not want

He makes me lie down in green pastures

He leads me beside the still waters

I didn’t completely understand this verse until I read what Kerri wrote on her blog today. I love moving water. Brooks, rivers, waterfalls, the ocean. None of them are still. They’re powerful, active, full of life and beauty. Why would God want to lead me beside still waters?

The fact that it has taken me several hours to get this far in this post (I watched a TV show, checked e-mail, visited with my son, started the laundry, ate a chicken leg, etc.) makes me think that God might be wanting to sit on me beside the still waters instead of leading me by them. Just so He can have a captive audience! But Kerri has a much better answer … Sheep “will not drink from a noisy, rushing stream. The shepherd must first dam up the stream to create a quiet pool that the sheep will then drink from.”

God desires that we be well nourished, rested, exercised, healthy! And He does whatever is necessary to create an optimal environment for us to achieve those things! Green pastures. Still waters.

Where are you walking, resting, drinking today? Is it by still waters? Please share your testimony of His goodness and grace in comments!

joy comes in the morning 300x260 Joy Comes in the MorningI was struggling with sorrow yesterday and Josiah looked at me and begged me not to allow it to drag me into the pit of depression again. I knew that my depression had been hard on the whole family and that I had been MUCH better, even on less medication, since I quit work, but every once in a while something like that is said that reminds me of how bad it was and how far we have come! I cried a lot yesterday. Today I was ready to write it down and let it go … until the next time it rises and overwhelms me again!

Erica called late yesterday afternoon. She was angry when she called and was very irritable and short-tempered during our very short conversation. I do understand. It was Mother’s Day and she has lost her children! I would be crabby too! But I have learned that I can’t let her take it out on me so once I knew that nothing I said was going to be right I told her I was going to let her go and hung up. I just wish she would realize that she isn’t the only one in pain!

BUT … even so I WILL praise Him!

I enjoy doing the work and I will put whatever I make towards attending blog conferences that I couldn’t otherwise afford. And I can be a blessing to others at the same time! I’m currently working on a theme for a friend who wanted a retro feel with dachshunds! icon smile Joy Comes in the Morning You check it out here. She likes it as is. I’d kind of like to tweak it a little more. If I can help any of you with some design please let me know!
